Holy Orders
Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate.

How does a man become a priest?
Jesus calls those he chooses to share in his Priesthood. A man should never take the initiative to pursue Holy Orders unless he feels a call from Jesus.
How would I know if Jesus is calling me to the priesthood?
It would be very difficult to know if Jesus is calling a man to the priesthood if he does not have a prayer life and an intimate relationship with Christ. Prayer and discernment are key to knowing whether or not Jesus is calling a man to the priesthood.
What should I do if I feel Jesus is calling me to the priesthood?
You should make an appointment with your parish priest to discuss what has lead you to believe that Jesus may be calling you. Any conversation you have with your parish priest is completely confidential and you are not committed to anything. The Spirit will prompt him in guiding you further. If your parish priest is unavailable, contact a priest from a neighboring parish or the Vocation Office of the Diocese of Fresno. Click here to be taken to the Vocation Office website.
